Yesterday I finished course 3 of the Wilton cake decorating classes at Michael's. 3 down, 1 to go. For the final cake we had to make a two tiered wedding cake. I had the choice of using buttercream frosting or fondant. Of course I chose fondant. I could stack my layers or separate them with the pillars. I chose to stack mine. I also selected to have a 100% white cake. I think the white on white is a simple and elegant look. I'm pretty proud of this cake. I spent a lot of time on it too... well for me anyway. I'd say about 3 hours making flowers. (I had a bit of a mishap with the first batch. When they dried, they had holes in them, so I ended up scrapping most of those) I spent about 4-5 hours yesterday baking cake, letting it cool, making buttercream icing, making more flower, rolling fondant and covering the cake with the fondant. Then today I spent about 2 hours in class putting it all together. There are a few errors with the cake, no need to talk about them haha. I know how to mak...

I'm a Betty Crocker wannabe

10/10/2008 9:00 AM

So there's this hobby I have... I really enjoy baking and have recently gotten into cake decorating. My roommates bought me cake decorating lessons for my birthday. I started back in August. The course was 4 Monday nights for 2 1/2 hours each time. That was course one... I enjoyed it so much I signed myself up for course two. That took up the month of September. I'm currently enrolled in course three. There's one more course after this one... which I totally intend on taking too.

To anyone who's also interested in this hobby... I highly recommend taking a class. I'm taking my at my local Michael's. I think one of the reasons I enjoy cake decorating is that it's relaxing for me. When I'm decorating a cake... that's all I'm thinking about. So it's my little stress reliever from life sometimes... and everyone needs one of those.

At any rate... I'll stop rambling about my classes and let you go check out my cakes... I posted some photos of my cakes in my My Photos a...

Nashville Star...

2/11/2008 9:00 AM

Hello Neighbors,

As some of you may [or may not] know, I got to hang out at the Pittsburgh round of auditions for Nashville Star this past Saturday. Now don't let me mislead you... I did not audition [that def. wouldn't have been a pretty sight or sound haha]. Instead, I had fun chatting with the contestants. I heard a ton of very talented voices. And of course I was promoting DR... so keep an eye out for some fresh faces 'round the neighborhood.

I'd like to say congratulations to those who made it on to the next round! That's truly a great accomplishment. And also, great job to all of you who auditioned. You should def. be proud of yourselves :0) It takes a lot of courage to do something like that.

I know the judges must have had a hard time selecting who moves on and who heads back home. It's a job I know I wouldn't want. I'd probably end up sending everyone on to the next round.

So for those of you moving on to round 2... please keep us ...
