A collection of Willie Nelson recordings from the late-1960s, stripped of the strings to their minimalist foundation, will be released in March with the Naked title, and the album boasts rather appropriate artwork.
"For the album cover, Willie took a picture of himself with his iPhone while he was in the bubble bath and sent it to me," producer Mickey Raphael, who plays harmonica with Willie’s Family Band, told Rolling Stone.
The iPhone isn’t the only modern gadget in Willie’s possession. He’s also got a Wii system, which he uses for faux bowling matches against his sons, Micah and Luke, who perform with the band.
"I've heard that lots of senior-citizens centers are getting Wiis, because it really does work," Willie said. "You know, most 75-year-olds already decided to hang it up a long time ago. I would never be in that mind-set, because I enjoy what I'm doing. As long as I'm healthy, I'll never leave the road."
Willie points to blues legend B.B. King and Country Music Hall of Famer Ernest Tubb as inspirations for his road-warrior attitude.
"I'm not ready to quit," Willie said. "I'm not ready to die, either."
Willie is on the road again, according to Pollstar.com, beginning with a Jan. 9 date in West Wendover, Nev. His January itinerary also includes a five-night stand at the legendary Fillmore concert hall in San Francisco.
