Randy Owen, who entered the Country Music Hall of Fame as the lead vocalist for Alabama, will release his autobiography, Born Country, in November, CountryStandardTime.com reports.
It is, by all accounts, a rags-to-riches story in which the band’s commercial peaks were sometimes accompanied by personal tragedies. That includes the death of his father just weeks before Alabama launched from a club act to national status.
"I really didn’t have a chance to mourn," Randy says. "Some of the most successful days I had as an entertainer were some of the saddest days for me around that time."
Randy and cousins Jeff Cook and Teddy Gentry originally formed the band under the name Wild Country in their hometown of Ft. Payne, Ala. They honed their sound in a club in Myrtle Beach, then strode to prominence in 1980, the same year that Urban Cowboy made country music a cultural focus. The threesome, along with drummer Mark Herndon, recently had statues unveiled in their honor in a Ft. Payne park.
Randy, who’s also planning to release his first solo album this year, wrote Born Country with Allen Rucker, who co-authored books by Gretchen Wilson and Big & Rich. Randy’s volume is due Nov. 11.
