Kellie Pickler must have a thing for the last day of the month: She released her debut album on Oct. 31, 2006, and now she’s set Sept. 30 as the street date for her self-titled sophomore project.

"I’ve learned so much since the first album, like the fact that Budapest is the capital of Hungary," she laughs.

That, of course, is a reference to her appearance on "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?" where she told host Jeff Foxworthy she’d never heard of Hungary and thought that Europe was a country. It got her skewered in a lot of circles, but the way she handled it also showed she has a sense of humor about herself.

The new album connects Kellie with where she’s been, but also who she’s becoming.

"The material on the new album is part small-town girl, but also a reflection of the experiences I’ve had over the last two years," she observes. "I’ve matured, some, seen a lot more of the world, and naming the album Kellie Pickler says, ‘This album is me, this is who I am and where I am.’"

After working on the first album with producer Blake Chancey, Kellie turned for the new project to Chris Lindsey. He’s produced hits in the past for Jimmy Wayne, Chris Cagle and Mark Wills, but he also is a co-writer on Kellie’s singles "Red High Heels," "I Wonder" and "Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful."

Before the album’s release, look for Kellie on the Sept. 8 ABC special "CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night To Rock." She’ll co-host the two-hour program with Taylor Swift and Julianne Hough.
