George Strait may have more No. 1 hits than anyone in history, but when he was attending high school, a record-setting future wasn’t exactly an obvious part of his life’s journey. He started playing music around that time with a garage band, a group that now makes him laugh.

"It was one that never got out of the garage," he says. "It was one of those kinds. We kind of piddled around with some stuff back in my late high-school days, and I knew maybe two or three chords on the guitar, so we didn’t get very far. It’s something that I toyed around with at that time and never really took serious, never really considered it was ever going to be a career for me. It was kind of something that you thought, ‘Well, that’s good when you’re clowning around.’ And that’s pretty much all we did. And it wasn’t until later on, a few years later, when I developed my love for country music and started considering it as something I’d like to do for the rest of my life."

Now George has made quite an imprint on country music. He’s notched a whopping 56 No. 1 hits, and his current single is unique in that it pairs two living member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. George became a Hall of Fame member in 2006, and the following year, Vince Gill followed him. Vince is singing background vocals on George’s latest release, "Troubadour."
