George Strait's new album, "Troubadour," was released Tuesday, and the album's title track has an extremely interesting guest. Vince Gill provides backing vocals on the song, in which the singer keeps pushing for the future even as he looks back at his own musical past.
"It does tell a pretty good story that fits my whole career from start to finish," George says of the song, in which he sings "I'll be an old troubadour when I'm gone." "That's really what I'll be when I grow to an age I can't do this anymore. I've always wanted to be around as long as I could, for sure. I'm still after longevity. I want to make records as long as I can, 'cause I still enjoy it just as much as I always did."
Vince's presence puts a cool twist on the performance, as it left a 2006 Country Music Hall of Fame inductee singing behind someone who was inducted just last year.
One other piece of trivia that fits the song nicely: Vince came to national prominence while he was living in Los Angeles, and one of the first shows he remembers best when he moved to the West Coast in the mid-'70s occurred at a very famous venue called ... The Troubadour.
