Riverbank
Robert Arthur, Kirk Roth and I wrote Riverbank as a simple tribute to our Fathers.
At the time, both their dads had been deceased for quite a few years and mine was already fighting and slowly losing the battle of his life with Cancer and diabetes. We both knew that he didn't have long, and I went home every chance I could to spend time with him. As his bad days got worse, and his good days became fewer, we talked a lot, remembering better times.
One of the things he did a lot when I was a kid was to take me and Mama and my little brother fishing on the banks of Pearl River in Mississippi. We'd catch a string of catfish and take them home for Mama to fry for supper. Sometimes we didn't even get a nibble, but we were together and that's what really mattered.
Daddy said God would provide, and He always did.
He also said that you can't believe halfway-you either believe we all get to be together again after our life here is finished- or you don't.
After much pain and suffering, my Dad passed away in August of 2007. And even though I know he's in a better, peaceful place, I miss him every single day. Not in an entirely sad way, but in a warm, loving way that always brings a smile with a tear when I remember the Riverbank. I know I'll see him again because he told me I would. Daddy believed, and so do I.

Jeff I lost my dad a year ago too, June 11th, I know what you mean when you say you know they are in a better place but you still miss them everyday. I know I will see him again and that makes it easier in alot of ways. My dad was a good man that loved his family with all his heart and soul and he loved the Lord too and his strength and faith was amazing to experience when he was struggling with death. He was ready to go home to his heavenly father and left us with a smile on his face. My heart goes out to the ones that do not believe in Jesus Christ and it is so heart breaking to watch someone slip away that is scared. I pray everyday for those people. My dad love to fish also and we have alot of memories of our time together. Your song Riverbank is touching to so many people and I always think of you and Kirk when I hear it and the memories you have of your dads. It is a song that touches your heart in many ways. God does get us through the grief and our memories are a blessing he has given each of us. Take care and look forward to seeing you soon. Love your new cd and this song. Debra (Meridian, MS)
