biography
Hello, my name is Dan Dailey and I'd like to share with you a little about myself.
I have been writing, playing and singing all my life. I love country music and enjoy everyone's musical styles and lyrics. I am amazed that we have an ability to share our deepest thoughts and fears, record ourselves and and allow everyone in the world the opportunity to enjoy what we love to do! Play and sing country music. My hats off to the wonderful artists who share their music with the world.
Northern Virginia, Washington DC and Baltimore, Maryland are my stomping grounds. I started a acoustic trio called "Vagabond". We played, Eagles, CS&N, Jimmy Buffet, James Taylor songs in the local bars. We quickly added more and more members and changed our name to "Sidetract". I named the band "Sidetract", because during practice, everyone wanted to get side tracked and play stuff we'd never play out. The name stuck and we performed for over 10 years.
Sidetact, played mostly cover songs, for weddings, business parties, bars ans any venue we could get our hands on. Sidetract, consisted on 8 member, 6 lead singers, thousands of dollars of shared equipment. We could do anything from Matchbox Twenty to Elvis Presley, from Bonnie Raitt to Cheryl Crowe. We had 3 guitar player, keyboards, drums, bass and a sax player (our sound man), who would come up and play a few songs with us.
Sidetract was very much like a family, but like all good things, they must come to an end. We got older as well as our fans. Most would come out to the shows, but being over 40 years old, they were gone by midnight. We'd pack the place and bar owners loved us because most ate dinner and ran up big bills, but by our last set we were playing to the last few regulars and the last set became too much work. Plus, being over 40, I wanted my Sundays back. Man after loading in, playing and loading out, we'd get home almost when the sun was coming up. Sleep all day and go to work Monday.
I love music, I love playing, but at my age, I love my Sundays more.
I like writing and recording. I can do it on my time and on my dime. I get to do what I want to do and not have to do what the band members votes on. I'll always miss the band and all the relationships. I've got my memories and some really funny stories (some I'll never share). I'm glad I had the opportunity to do the things I have done.
We played the barn's of Wolf Trap, we opened for the Outlaws, but the biggest event we had was New Years Eve at the Australian Embassy. There must have been nearly 500 plus people and a fine time was had by all. Friend, those Aussie's can put it down. They love to drink, they love to sing along and they will dance any of us off the dance floor. You should have been there.
I'm not saying I'll never be in a band again, maybe one day, who knows!
I have just released 2 original songs. I co-wrote with a good friend, Steve Price. I have loved being involved with the recording process. It's amazing the stuff you can do at the recording level. I'm currently writing a couple of new tunes. I hope to have the lyrics hammered out soon and the recording process started in early next year.
I hope you like the songs I have on Digital Rodeo and I hope you can relate to a few of the lines. Both songs have a little bit of me in them, I hope they have a little bin of you there also!
Kind regards,
Dan Dailey
