Cody McCarver EPK (Electronic Press Kit) ..
REAL! That is the word to describe Cody McCarver. With a musical style that will always leave you wanting more, he is sincere and genuine, heartfelt, tough and truthful with no apologies and no regrets. CODY McCARVER, Cody’s self-titled debut album, will take you on an emotional roller coaster. If you want to smile, cry, laugh, love or just raise cane, come along for the ride with Cody McCarver.
If you call Cody a Good Ole Boy, he will just smile with pride as he was born and raised in Dunlap, Tennessee, a quiet suburb of Chattanooga. His musical career began at age 9, playing piano in a small church. Teaching himself to play multiple instruments, by age 17 he was performing in local Honky Tonks. Even then, he knew what he wanted to do and never stopped pursuing his dream of becoming a singer. He spent two years as the bass guitarist on tour with the legendary Lynn Anderson. The next stepping-stone to recording his self-titled debut album was playing piano with Confederate Railroad. He has played at clubs, fairs and festivals around the nation and around the world. You name the place, Cody has probably been there! Yet his songs still reflect the importance of family values and small town influences.
While listening to CODY MCCARVER, you will hear a voice like no other. Sure, everyone picks up pieces along the way, but Cody has blended them into something unique, true to himself and his voice. Gospel, Classic country and Southern Rock are in his blood and can be heard in his songs. The debut project makes you smile with selections like “Red Flag”, a lesson for women, in what to look for in a man, and “Redneck Love Gone Bad”, a total Jerry Springer episode. The mournful ballad “Should Have Been Me” will bring a tear to your eye. But the most talked about cut is the new single “Through God’s Eyes”. McCarver began writing the song about four years ago and it’s based on the life of a homeless man in McCarver’s hometown of Dunlap, Tennessee. McCarver’s daughter was concerned about this homeless man and was asking her father about him. McCarver told his daughter that this homeless man is the same as you and I through God’s eyes, and the concept for the song was born.
McCarver worked on the song and wrestled with a final version, until an idea came about from his friend, Davey Smith, suggesting that the next verse should be about a guy in prison, which allowed McCarver to draw on a true-life experience about his dad, who is serving a life sentence for first-degree murder for shooting the man who was having an affair with his wife. When his father was in the holding cell for the crime he told McCarver that he guessed there was no chance that he would go to heaven now. McCarver’s dad had always been a church-going, hardworking man who had never been in any trouble, so he wrote the last verse as way of bringing comfort to the elder McCarver.
Cody’s live show is wide open with lots of energy and when the beer starts flowing on the tailgates, Cody might just have one with you! He has learned a lot along the way from his heroes and friends, but his live show is pure CODY McCARVER. From front porches to the stages of America, you can get CODY McCARVER and there’s no doubt you will come away saying, WOW!
