Health Alert RE: Sunscreens

August 11th, 2008 · No Comments

RE:  Cosmetic Safety Data Base

Continuing research is suggesting that multiple chemicals used in popular sunscreens may be causing or contributing to skin cancers and other health problems.

Since many spotters, chasers and emergency personnel use sunscreens, this information is worthy of note. The number of skin cancers, is increasing rapidly around the world. In just seven years, the number of skin cancers has increased by an astonishing 47 percent! Skin cancer is currently the second most common cancer in 20 to 39 year olds. Skin cancer deaths in USA totaled over 10,000 in 2004.

The suspect chemicals include oxybenzone, a potentially hazardous chemical.
Ironically, the  FDA is stalling their promise of some 30 years to set sunscreen standards.

Top-ranked sunscreens, for chemical and protection safety include a zinc oxide sunscreen from Walgreen’s (inexpensive) and a product from Keys Soap (expensive).
