Influences
I have been greatly influenced by all of my heroes. My grandparents have had the greatest impact on my life and my love for singing. They have always encouraged me to sing, even putting my on stage for the first time at 5yrs old. Of course I have my Idols like: George Strait, Clint Black, Johnny Cash, Alabama, Alan Jackson, Tex Ridder, Bob Wills, and the list could go on for days. I come from a long line of vocalist but, GOD has to be the most precious influence that any of us could have.
I sound like me, trying to give country music a little of my sound. I would love to be able to sound like George Strait or Alan Jackson but we already have them to look up to. Now I like to think its my turn to give people what they want to hear.
In The early years growing up with his grandparents William F. Voges and Sally (Faler) Voges, they introduced Shawn to singing at the age of 5 years old in their family church. He quickly developed a passion for singing gospel and country music. Coming from a strong Christian home that was full of very talented vocalist, Shawn received a lot of encouragement from grandparents and aunts and uncles. Born in Riverside, California but has moved around the country living everywhere from Mid-west to Washington State.
In high school Shawn was a very talented athlete in Cross Country, Wrestling and Track and Field but, was also in the schools very talented and competitive jazz and concert choir. His love of singing country music has played a major role in his life he was really influenced by Johnny Cash, George Strait & Alan Jackson just to name a few from a long list of artist.
After high school and a year of college where he ran cross country for Spokane Falls Community College Shawn decided to put everything on hold along with his dreams of being a country music recording artist so he could join the United States Navy. He has dedicated nearly 15 years of his life to his country where he became a highly decorated 1st class Petty Officer being an Aircraft Director aboard some of the Navy's largest aircraft carriers in the fleet.
Another love of Shawn's is the rodeo where he developed the passion of being a bull-rider. For several years he rode the Northwest Rodeo Circuit and the Military Pro Rodeo Association until he got injured one too many times but still holds it close and dear to his heart.
Now finally getting to doing the one thing that he truly has loved all of his life, Shawn will soon be releasing his debut CD titled "A Spitting Image of Me" which he dedicates to beautiful daughter Savannah, a true blessing in his life. He has teamed up with Lynnette (Margis) Anderson to write and record the songs that truly came from the heart.
Some of the venues Shawn has had the pleasures of performing at are :
