Born Mitchell Ray Fortune December 2, 1941 in Dresden, TN. His father was in the military so his family moved several times, finally settling in the Elizabethtown, KY area. Mickey started playing the guitar and singing at an early age. By the time he was fifteen, he was performing at the Joel Ray Sprowls, Lincoln jamboree in Hodgesville, KY. He made personal appearances in the area as well as appearing on radio and television programs.
In 1971 he moved to Miami, FL where he worked as a steel guitar player and vocalist in several of the local night clubs, also doing some television and recordings. In 1994 he began writing gospel music, hoping to have his songs recorded by another artist. His mother and his wife encouraged him to record the songs himself. In 1997 he agreed to do so. Mickey contacted long time friend, Roger Ball and asked him to produce the album. Roger agreed to do so and they began setting up the studios, and enlisting the help of the incomparable Ronnie Light as the engineer, also producing the talents of some of the greatest musicians in Nashville.
Mickey performed in church on several occasions, and one of the members referred him to Vera Vanderpool at Rosebud Records. Vera was very interested in the album and agreed to release it on the Rosebud label. Mickey has placed his album in the very capable hands of the lord Jesus, and turned the listening over to the greatest folks in the world, "the fans." his hope is that you will give it a listen and are blessed by it as much as Mickey was recording it.
