Johnny Cymbal was born February 3, 1945 in Oitree, Scotland. His parents then moved the family to Goderich, Ontario Canada. At age 13, Johnny took an interest in guitar playing among other musical interests. At age 17, self taught guitarist, Johnny Cymbal was signed MGM Records and was whisked off to Nashville, Tennessee to record. From an unsuspecting demo "Bachelor Man" turned semi-hit made him more popular and landed him in the Nashville spotlight.
In 1963, Johnny was then signed with Kapp Records and the hit song "Mr. Bass Man" was born. Bringing him to award winning status, Johnny found himself wearing many hats in the recording industry by way of songwriting, producing, arranging and directing many chart topping hit songs for other artists in the Nashville country music scene.
Johnny has been signed with and/or has worked with many Artists including Elvis Presley and Record Labels such as Colombia Records, Tower Records, A & M, and Bang Records to name a few. His hit song "Cinnamon" (writers Johnny Cymbal/George Tobin) reached #11 on the Billboard Charts in 1968. Then band member, (brother) Derek Cymbal, toured and promoted the song. Johnny went back into the studio to continue his songwriting projects for himself and other artists in Nashville.

Who I'd like to meet: Johnny Cymbal met Elvis Presley during the recording of "Mary in the Morning". Johnny re-tells the story to his brother Andrew Blair.
Johnny was very excited to meet Elvis, and a bit nervous! But after a little time with him Johnny was eased by him being so kind and down to earth. I believe Elvis also gave him a gift! Jacket?
Elvis loved the song, expressing it's beauty many times while performing being the reason why he recorded it.
The hit song "Mary in the Morning" went platinum, and at one time hung on the wall at Graceland in Memphis Tennessee. (I believe it still is)
