My name is ED DORSEY and I do business as THEDORSEYTOUCH Promotions. Welcome to MySpace and My World.

I have a Associate Arts Degree in Music Entertainment Management from The Art Institute of Atlanta and studied Music Business Management under Louis Lewow.

I also studied Broadcasting and Communications at the Columbia School of Broadcasting and was Mr. Ed at Power 99 WAPW. Everything I learned about radio outside of college was from the Greatest Man in Broadcasting, Anthony Sebastian.

I have Gold and Platinum Certification from The RIAA. I have also conducted exclusive, one on one interviews with The Rolling Stones' Mick Taylor and five time Grammy Award winner Tito Puente.

I started my career in music when I was 16 selling records over the counter at an underground record shop, A-1 Records, which was literally underground because it was in the basement of a dance studio. I have over 20 years of experience working in one capacity or another in the music business. I have been responsible for tracking Sound Scan sales, ordering import and specialty product, setting up advertising and sales accounting with one-stops, import dealers and indie distributors. I have been a singles buyer for Musicland in charge of ordering hit product and worked directly with label marketing reps on in store merchandising and promotions. I have done live remote appearances, station promotions, radio production, copy work and voice overs. I have directed marketing staffs in National Radio, Retail and Merchandising campaigns. I have worked my records to the following radio formats. AOR, CHR, AC, Country, Jazz, Modern Rock, College, Triple A and R and B. I have been responsible for directing a promotion staff located throughout an 11 State region in securing airplay and increased chart positions on new single releases to radio. I have been in charge of implementing and booking co-op advertising time buys between retail, radio and show promoters. I have worked directly with the artist and their management as a liaison to radio setting up interviews and promotions. I have traveled extensively on the concert circuit in support of my bands and artists setting up backstage meet and greets, artist marketing and working with local show promoters to insure maximum ticket sales. One of the things I am most proud of is an intern program I ran in which student interns earned college credits working under my direction.

I have worked for the following Record Labels; Arista, Relativity, Important Records now RED, Grudge (RCA/BMG), DB Records, Ear Ache, Combat and In-Effect Records. I have worked under the direction of Clive Davis, Chuck Gregory, Gordon Anderson, Barry Corbin and Danny Beard. I have promoted close to 100 bands and artists to radio on behalf of the record labels I’ve worked for, including Annie Lennox, Kenny G, Yes, Jeff Healey, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Sarah McLachlan.

I hold the belief that we need to expand the parameters of commercially acceptable music and that there needs to be a greater equal distribution of wealth in the industry. New music is the life line of the industry and I truly believe that the major labels should be more involved on a grass roots level helping to create new music trends instead of just jumping on the band wagon after all the leg work has been done then cashing in on a few acts.

I’ve been accused of being over zealous when it comes to the promotion and protection of the artist I am representing. This can be viewed as a good or bad thing depending on who you are. I chose not to work for one particular label anymore because I feel it puts me in an uncompromising position to promote a band or artist I might not believe in. Nothing is worse than to be told by the label to go out on the road and don’t come back until you get the record added and reported to the trade publications when you don’t even believe in the project. I prefer to promote one record at time. When you’re directed to work more than one record at a time at the same format, it’s just not fair to the artist. Play lists are so tight you're lucky to get one add much less two. It comes down to simple mathematics but for some reason the majors just don’t get it or refuse to. Two potential hit songs, one slot. Somebody’s going to get screwed.
