Wild Country was formed in the early 80's when Denny Derr deceided to add more musicians to his Duo he had. Stan Ink was the lead player who came up with the name "Wild Country". The name fit as Denny was kinown for his heavy Waylon Jennings/Hank Jr. sound. Denny and his Wife Ruth played as Denny & Ruth before becoming Wild Country with then current drummer Harold Willitte. After several years of playing music together Stan Ink left to play more Bluegrass as that is Stans love of music. Harold and Ruth parted ways during this time and the Wild Country Band members became:
Denny Derr - Acoustic Guitar, Vocals
Butch Derr - Lead Guitar, Vocals
Kenny Derr - Bass Guitar, Vocals
Paul Palmer - Drums
This band was very busy with dates all around the area From Auburn, NY to Canton & Tioga, PA.
All the above happened in the mid to late 80's, This is also when Butch left and went on to start The Silver Eagle Band. After the band was formed Kenny joined Butch in the Silver Eagle Band along with Paul Palmer who had been the drummer for Wild Country. Confused Yet?
It's all coming to fruitation soon. Kenny continued to play with The Silver Eagle band until he got a wild hair to do something else, He started his own band, Kenny Derr & First Take with Paul Palmer (I think we heard that name before) Mike Burns and Chris Grace. That band was together for about a year when it broke up. Almost to the end now, Kenny and Paul rejoin Butch Derr in the Silver Eagle Band and we played until Kenny moved to NC.
Now Kenny is Moving Back to NY and WILD COUNTRY is Coming out of retirement.
