On a Wing and a Prayer

If you haven't read the previous blog, please go back and read it first. And if you haven't gone over to Jon Roniger's Digital Rodeo site and listened to "The Way I Feel," then I suggest that you do that before reading the next blogs. Jon queries, why can't we feed the hungry, clothe the naked, build shelters for all of the homeless, and care for the old. It's a great song, and guys like Jon need to be supported because that is the kind of music that can change the world. I believe we can do all the things Jon talks about in his song. In following blogs, I am going to begin to share with you how we can all be a part of dramatic change in this world.
You see, my wife Stacey and I have kind of backed ourselves into a corner. We got involved with a small grassroots mission to help homeless kids in Ukraine. Then a couple of years ago, I began working with some of my songwriting buddies from PA writing Christmas music to be performed in an annual concert tour that would raise money for our work in Ukraine, as well as to tell the story of needy children everywhere, and to inspire audiences everywhere to rise to the challenge of working together to bring hope and help to the world's most desperate kids.
The ball has been gaining momentum ever since then and finally brought us to where we realized that we needed to move to Nashville, because it offers the logistics necessary to make such a huge project happen. We've already gotten a good start on our mission work in Ukraine, and that will be a key factor in the development of the Christmas concerts. So now the real work toward the musical part of our mission goes to the next level.
It has taken everything we have to get here. It's been a step of faith all the way. We've used up what money we had getting here. My unemployment runs out the end of the month. Stacey is working at the symphony part time for 8 bucks and hour and will start another job at a new store soon for the same money. So far, I've been busting butt trying to find some gigs and session work, but haven't had much luck. I'm doing a lot of networking and meeting a lot of great people, but nothing concrete thus far. So if you know of anyone in need of a good keyboard player/utility guy...
Was our move irresponsible? From a worldly perspective, perhaps it is. But, we've come to the conclusion that we can't bear getting to end of our lives and wonder if we could have changed the lives for thousands of those kids, yet did nothing about it when we had come so close. If this doesn't work out, we can accept that. But, we have to at least try to make it happen. So, we're backed into this corner and we have to fight our way out for the sake of those children. We've seen a lot of real miracles happen so far. And we have faith in both God and humanity, that we will find the right people who will help make this vision a reality.
We are in need of publishers, producers, management, writers, musicians, cinematographers, computer graphics personnel, and financial backers who want to take the risk of doing something that may be bigger than anything they could ever have imagined doing; people who are sick of the way the industry is going; sick of the way their lives are going; sick of the injustices that millions are facing every day around the world, and who are simply crazy enough to join us in believing that together we can do something truly great and wonderful with our lives.
In the next blog, I will tell you a bit about the plight these children are facing. It's horrible. I hope you will hang around to hear more.
Peace, and hope,
Webb
