Well, what a trip I just had to Mexico...no sandy beach and Mojito for me, this was the real deal....roll up your sleeves and get to work kind of a trip. It was all part of the Plant Big Seeds auction that we do every year at Centre Street Church in Calgary AB with Wayne Smele and Paul Brandt...the auction raises funds for projects at home and all over the world, and thank you for the great generosity of Vivian Pritchard, this led us to the Erma Fennel foundation in Vicente Guerero. Erma is a 78 year young Calgary native, who has more energy than most people a third of her age. Our mission was to go there with our team of 9 people, plus a few local helpers, and build 2 houses in 3 days...let me tell ya, a fella learns exactly what team work is all about building a house in the hot Mexico sun. We had a fantastic time getting to know the locals, and especially the family who we built our house for, the Lopez Cruz family. We have found some new friends down in this magical land of Mexico, and let me tell you, being able to help someone on that level, or on any level is certainly the best feeling a person can have....In this world of music, we become junkies to the approval of crowd, and our peers, but helping your fellow man in need melts away the need for such things immediately.....and I'm reminded that there are just as many needs in our home country, in our own neighborhoods, in our own homes.....what I learned from this trip was: a) for the most part, being Happy is a choice b) anyone and everyone under any circumstance can make a positive change c) There's no such thing as technology overload in Vicente Guerero...which having my blackberry and internet gone, proved to be one of the highlights of my trip.
