biography
Songwriter/Astronomer Marc Kuchner writes breathtaking contemporary country songs. He also works as an astrophysicist for NASA. Looking for new material or for an interesting co-writer? Drop him a line.
Kuchner began his musical career studying classical composition at the Juilliard School. He started writing country songs one night while he was alone at an observatory on a California mountaintop, waiting for the sky to clear.
Since then, Kuchner has honed his craft through many years of hard work and many trips to Nashville. He has also learned from Dwight Yoakam, producer Pete Anderson and other country greats working at Mad Dog Studios in Burbank, CA.
Kuchner's songs have been acquired by several publishers and music libraries in Nashville and L.A, played on over 42 radio stations, and covered by numerous independent artists around the country. Here are some of the songwriting contests his songs have won:
Low Budget Love Music Competition 1st place May 2008
American Idol Underground/Daisy Rock/Alfred Publishing Contest Grand Prize
Broadjam Love Song of the Month, February 2008
Songwriter Universe Best Song of The Month
Best of SongU (15 times)
Broadjam ACM Date With A Publisher Contest 1st place 2007
Billboard Songwriting Contest, 2nd place 2007
CMT/NSAI Contest Honorable mention 2007
Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest honorable mentions (4 out of 7 total in 2007)
SongU Student of the Month, February 2007
UK Songwriting Competition, finalist, country category, 2006
Unisong, finalist, country category, 2006
The Dallas Songwriters Association contest, finalist, 2006
John Lennon Songwriting Contest, 5th place 2001
New! So far, seven of Marc Kuchner's demos have been judged to be "hit grade" (solid blue) according to Platinum Blue. These recordings scored 700 or higher on the Platinum Blue Music Xray.
By the way, Marc finds it amusing that he wrote his Ph.D. thesis on the topic of zodiacal dust, the same topic Queen guitarist (and astrophysicist) Brian May studied in graduate school.
