I was born in Elmira NY and raise in NY State and WV, My Parents played music for all the years I was growing up but all I really wanted to do was race cars. I instead ended up playing bass for my fathers band taking my mothers spot after thier divorce. I continued to play bass for my dad's band Wild Country for several years. After that stint I moved on to playing acoustic guitar/Lead Singer for my uncles band "The Silver Eagle Band" That was when I broke out to my own style of country, we played any thing from Hank Sr. to Billy Idol. We mainly stayed with the Country Rock sounds of Hank Jr, Waylon, Travis Tritt etc... I left the Silver Eagle Band and Started my own band, Kenny Derr & First Take, That was the band that went from being un heard of to booked every weekend within a matter of a month. We played every Thursday through Sunday, This was also the time I started writting songs and went to the studio to record them. I moved to Nashville in 1990 and deceided that politics was not for me so I left Nashville about 5 months later and went back to NY and played music with the Silver Eagle Band again. I played that stint for another couple of years and deceided I was moving south to get away from the nasty winters. My wife and I opend an atlas to North Carolina, closed my eyes and pointed to the map, My finger landed on Burlington, NC and that is where we moved to.
Now I played my last date with the Silver Eagle band in March of 1994 loaded up my equipment in the u-haul truck and came to burlington. I now reside just outside Burlington in a little town called Whitsett.
Things change so quick -- Now we are moving back to NY and Wild Country is coming out of retirement.
Do you recall me saying all I wanted to do was race cars, Well that is what I have been doing the past several years, R/C cars, Go Karts and now Cars for the last 3 years. I am happy to be playing again and I now realize how much I have missed it.
