About Me
I dedicate this band "Wild Country" to my Father Denny Derr who had this name for over 20 years in the Southern Tier of NY! I started playing music when I was 17 in my Dad's band Denny Derr & Wild Country back in the early 80's. We played all around the Ithaca to Binghamton NY areas including Sayre PA. Basically the Southern Tier of NY. We played back then up to 5 nights a week with some doubles thrown in here and there. I Left the band in the late 80's to join my Uncle Butches band, The Silver Eagle Band. We stayed very busy with the hard country rockin sounds of Butch Derr on lead Guitar, Paul Palmer on Drums & Mike Burns on Bass Guitar course I was playing Rhythm guitar then and Lead vocals. We played for a few years and then Paul, Mike and Myself left Butch and started Kenny Derr and First Take. This band lasted about a year and I wound up back with Butch in Silver Eagle band. I stayed with Silver Eagle til I moved to North Carolina where I would lay my guitars down for about 15 years. I deceided to get back into the music business in January 2008 and Joind a band called Dented Fenders, this band played Classic & Southern Rock with a little Country thrown in. I left them in March of 09 to join The Tex Henley Band. I have Played my time with Tex and have now deceided to start Wild Country. I have traveled the road from Ny to IL. to MD. and all points in between. I do not wath to travel extensively anymore but wont rule out another trip to Wheeling WV to do Jamboree USA again. I did do my time in Nashville and that is partially what took my interest away for music. I got so tired of the politics in Nashville that it discouraged me from even wanting to play. Now I just want to have fun. I dont want the lime light anymore. I think this attitude has actually made me a better musician because I want to learn as much as I can and not be forced or pushed constantly. I do love Playing Music Again!!!
