About Me
Taylorsville, Kentucky native J.D. Shelburne is a mainstream country artist on his way to the top of the country charts as a new breakthrough artist. This small-town country star is pushing down every door he encounters. The usual first impression of J.D. can be summed up into one sentence "Boy, you sure were made to do this!" J.D. is known for his high energy shows combined with his southern rockin' sound best throughout is home state. Most say he is a cross between Keith Urban and Sawyer Brown. At the core of each of his songs is his distinctively unique yet powerful voice that’s as smooth as Kentucky Bourbon. He is currently touring all over the southeastern conference region hitting every club, festival and honky-tonk he encounters. To hear J.D. Shelburne tell his story, it all started when his dearest grandmother passed away during the summer between his freshman/ sophomore year of college back in June of 2002. When his grandmother’s life abruptly came to an end in June of that year, two weeks later J.D. finds a guitar in the attic closet that use to belong to his Uncle. It was destined that the torch was to pass on to his nephew. J.D. remembers. "I was a little shocked to find this guitar never knowing it was there before. I always had the knack to want to learn how someday…but didn’t think this soon and this serious in the buisness. I swear I think this was an instance that was meant to happen! This Taylorsville, Kentucky native spent many of his childhood years growing up in his family’s tobacco fields raising crops in between high school sporting games/ practice helping out his Dad. A small-town celebrity athletically brought him attention by area papers on his route to college but other interest drove him on the opposite path. That path was the unknown destination of Nashville. “No one in my entire family or even friends knew I had this country music career in my blood. I had never sung a day in my life until I found that guitar.” Laughs J.D. A college graduate from the University of Kentucky in May of 2007, J.D. is putting his degree to use now for the time being when he’s off work hours. Shelburne is designing his own website and merchandise while he works his way into the music scene in Nashville, Tennessee. The cousin of former country star Guy Shannon, knows his roots are deep in the music field. “I can remember when mom would sing in the church choir and you could barley get me to stand in front of a crowd to read the daily scripture during bible school commencements”. Now everything’s has changed. " "Music now controls my life, whether it be playing a gig with the band or setting at work writing songs.” Laughs J.D. He reflects. "I feel the 'creative guilt' every day thinking, I need to be out there, write more, sing more, I need to put this together make it happen...music has always been inside of me since that first Garth record, and at that point, I knew that it was something I needed to give a real shot." “I think mamma used to whip me with a Garth Brooks album back in my younger days…that’s why I am addicted to country music now.” Laughs J.D. J.D. Shelburne has opened for Kellie Pickler, The Kentucky Headhunters, Adam Gregory, Daryl Worley, David Frizzell, Joe Nichols, John Michael Montgomery, Shannon Lawson, Halfway to Hazard, Juice Newton and various others. J.D. will also be featured in an upcoming issue of Country Weekly as an upcoming hot artist on the rise. Now at age 26, J.D. is poised for 2009 to be that breakthrough year he's been gearing-up to achieve. "Ever since this music career began, my dreams has been to play the Grand Ole Opry, radio airplay worldwide and perform a sold out show….I’ve already did two of those so will see what happens with Opry now!" He is currently in the studio wrapping up his Nashville debut release.
