biography
Singing since she can remember, Debra lives just south of Nashville, TN where she spends her time songwriting, blogging for the Nashville Music Buzz, and lending her voice to demos, background singing, a local church worship team and the alto section of The Nashville Choir. She loves to sing all types of music in the studio and on stage. Debra grew up on the East Coast where she took part in musicals and choirs. In college she even expanded her background by directing and singing in the gospel group United Voices of Praise. After school Debra set down roots by her family and was an active member of her church and community. It is there that she won a local talent contest at a dinner theater called Three Little Baker's Idol. The self-titled debut CD came out in the summer of 2007. This, along with other musical successes encouraged her to move to a musical community, and Nashville was it! Debra is currently gaining the attention of the Nashville music community. In the fall of 2007 she was a top 16 finalist in the CMT Music City Madness 2 contest with her song Then You Come Around. This song also won her the title of Artist of the Month (December) in 2007; as well as Songwriter of the Month (March) at mctmgradio.com, an Internet radio site devoted to promoting independent artists. Her music is featured at indiecharts.com/debragordon, mctmgradio.com and LOCMradio.com. Just last summer she was a proud finalist in the Mickey Roo's local singing contest in Franklin, TN. Debra has shared the stage with the late Vern Gosdin and Ray Price to name a few. She enjoys being an active participant in the singer/songwriter community by being a part of writers nights across town, from Stage Write to the Listening Room. In the summer of 2009 Debra was chosen for her songwriting as one of the honored attendees of Horse and Writer 2009 held in Wyoming, created by Skip Ewing. Currently Debra has been nominated as female demo singer of the year at demosinger.com The results will be announced in December of 2009. Debra started the Nashville Music Buzz blog in September and has had the opportunity to interview up-and-coming companies like type4music. This blog is a way for people to relate to her experiences and hopefully shed some light on the Music Industry, songwriting, and all things creatively inspirational. Stop by and read the blog by going to www.nashvillemusicbuzz.com. CD credits include, Alaska (2008), Refuge (2008), Debra Gordon (2007), Communion: Peaceful Piano Meditations (2007), A Stone's Throw Away (2004), and Irish Whistles (2004).
